Who is the Editor?
Heather Stokes is a rising senior with a Theatre Arts and Anthropology double major with a focus in Archaeology. They studied abroad in Berlin, Germany in Spring ’24 and are a part of the Lincoln Scholars and Lambda Alpha Honors Society. Heather currently serves as the President of Student Musical Theater and Vice President of Owl and Nightingale Players, two of Gettysburg College’s theater clubs. They were led to the Fellowship due to their focus in Cultural Anthropology being honed towards Protests and Civil Rights. This Fellowship has allowed Heather to explore further into the 1950s-1970s in terms of protest music and how it has evolved throughout this time period. They hope to use a collection of songs and events in order to analyse trends and patterns during this period in order to draw a broader picture of what this category of music breaks down to and how it influenced the time. Digital Humanities has proven to be a great deal of intrigue to them during this project as it combines Anthropology with the digital age in their opinion. DH allows for a connection of cultures and people in collaboration that would not be possible without the digital side of DH. DH also helps in the documentation aspect of these projects which makes it easier in some aspects to broadcast to the public. In the future, Heather hopes to work for a professional touring show such as Cirque du Soleil or for one of the numerous ballet companies and concerts touring at the moment in order to continue their work in professional theatre. They also hope to go to Europe to obtain a Master’s degree in Bioarchaeology or Classical Archaeology to become an archaeologist specialising in bones and bodies recovered to help identify and understand how they died.
